01. Description
T his project is located in Hangzhou Bay New District, Ningbo City. It will use the finished vehicle parking garage and employee parking lot of Shanghai Volkswagen Ningbo production base to build a photovoltaic carport integrated distributed photovoltaic power station with a total installed capacity of 55 MW. After completion, it can produce more than 60 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity per year, which will be supplied to Shanghai Volkswagen’s Ningbo production base at a preferential price. After power generation, it can save 18,000 tons of standard coal and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide by 54,000 tons. More than 20,000 vehicles can be parked under this photovoltaic carport at the same time, generating electricity on the roof. The shed can provide shade and rain protection for finished cars, and it also has the function of preventing hail. After completion, its volume will be larger than its original size and set a Guinness World Record. Nanjing Volkswagen’s building-integrated photovoltaic project is five times larger. This project is divided into three phases. The first phase of the project, which is currently under construction, has a total installed capacity of 20 MW and is expected to be connected to the grid for power generation by the end of the year.
During the project implementation, Shanghai Automotive Asset Management Co., Ltd. will use self-developed adjustable structure photovoltaic carports in batches, which select the best light-receiving point according to the angle of the sun’s revolution, increasing the power generation efficiency by more than 10%. In addition, Internet technology is fully utilized in monitoring, operation and maintenance systems, so that each power generation module can be displayed simultaneously on the monitoring platform and mobile terminals with corresponding APPs installed. Through data analysis, the best design, operation and maintenance methods can be found.
It is reported that this project is the first step in a new round of SAIC Group’s overall 500 MW distributed photovoltaic project construction launched after the completion of the 50 MW Golden Sun Photovoltaic Project. This year, there will also be a series of large-scale photovoltaic projects waiting to be started in Yizheng and Wuxi of Jiangsu, Jinqiao and Lingang of Shanghai, and Yantai of Shandong. Once these projects are completed, SAIC will have many green factories on display in front of the world. Relevant parties in Ningbo City stated that they will take this photovoltaic project construction as an opportunity. In the future, when introducing large-scale industrial projects, photovoltaic project construction will be a prerequisite to make the construction of large-scale development zones more green and environmentally friendly.

According to project engineers, using photovoltaic modules to replace the top surface of the carport not only makes full use of the original site for sun and rain protection, but also generates electricity to make money. In the past, employees’ vehicles could only be exposed to the sun. In March, when employees got off work, it was like entering a sauna. The thermal insulation effect of the photovoltaic carport is very good, which can cool down the car a lot in summer. The electricity generated by the photovoltaic panels can not only meet the daily electricity demand of the service area, but the remaining part can also be integrated into the national grid, achieving both economic and environmental benefits. At the same time, it also responds to the national “double carbon” strategy.
